ST. JOHN - Lois Earline Scott, 83, died Sept. 20 at Leisure Homestead in St. John. She was born Oct. 13, 1926, at Texas County, Okla., the daughter of Hugh and Eunice Lyles Kilgore. She graduated from Hooker High School, Hooker, Okla., and attended Oklahoma Baptist University. On Jan. 22, 1946, she married Gene Hartford Scott in Liberal. He passed away in 2002. A resident of St. John since 1953, she was employed as an abstracter and title insurance agent owning Stafford County Abstract and Title for over 32 years, a B-24 Airplane Plant bookkeeper, the Stafford County Register of Deeds Office, a Probate Judge 1967-1970, and for Railroad Savings and Loan. She was the chairperson of Stafford County Republican Party for 40 years and alternate delegate for the 1984 Republican National Convention.

Ms. Scott was a member of the First Baptist Church, Sunday School Superintendent, Awanas volunteer, church organist, Secretary of the Senior Center, Founder and Queen Mother of the Roaring Red Hats of St. John, Rebekah Lodge No. 425, President of Stafford County Mental Health Association, Cub Scouts Den Mother, and Progressive Mother’s Club.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Gene Scott of Great Bend and Ronald Hartford Scott of St. John; a brother, H.A. Kilgore of Hooker, Okla.; a sister, Joyce Fowler of Elkhart; three grandchildren, Amy Denise McVey, Kelli Dawn Burton and grandson-in-law, Clint, and Kara Nicole Scott; six great grandchildren, Alexis Lauren Law, Ramsey Sue McVey, Cashe Earl McVey, Jillian Dawn Burton, Carli Sue Burton and William Coy Burton.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in St. John. Visitation will be today from 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials to the USD 350 Education Foundation or Ministerial Alliance in care of the funeral home.
