HOISINGTON — Loretta M. Morgenstern, 96, died Oct. 25, 2017, at Country Place Senior Living in Hoisington. Born May 31, 1921, in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Emil and Sophia (Sausen) Demel. On Feb. 14, 1942, she married LeRoy Morgenstern in Wichita. He died on Oct. 3, 1993. Loretta, a lifetime Hoisington resident and dedicated farm wife and mother, worked for a short time at Valley Center Bank in Valley Center, after graduating from Wichita Business College.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Altar Society, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of Hoisington. She was active in several card groups and the Alturian Study Club, enjoyed traveling, and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Morgenstern and wife Lou Ann of Hoisington, Bob Morgenstern and wife Jan of Hoisington, and Donald Morgenstern of Hoisington; three daughters, Joan Rziha and husband Leonard of Hoisington, Roxanne Bell and husband Tom of Salina, and Pam Willis and husband Greg of Hoisington; 16 grandchildren, Mike Rziha, Scott Rziha, Gary Rziha, Brenda (Morgenstern) Kaiser, Jim Morgenstern, John Morgenstern, Ann (Morgenstern) Buesing, Matt Morgenstern, Crista (Morgenstern) Robinson, Karla (Morgenstern) Wilkens, Austin Bell, Jennifer Bell, Liz (Willis) Radi, Adam Willis, Nathan Willis, Katy (Willis) Hekele; and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Virginia Demel; and an infant twin brother, Lawrence Demel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington with Father Dwight Birket officiating. Interment will be at the St. John Cemetery in Hoisington. Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or Kans for Kids, in care of the funeral home.
