ELLINWOOD — Lorraine Mary (Matza) Rickert, 78, died March 4, 2015, at her home in Ellinwood. Born on April 8, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Brungardt) Matza. She graduated high school from St. Mary’s school in Garden City, attended the Immaculate Conception Convent in Great Bend, and also graduated from the Wilcox Beauty Academy. She later married Larry Rickert on May 9th, 1963, in Holly, Colo. She was a 52-year resident of Ellinwood, where she worked as a beautician.
Mrs. Rickert was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, serving as an Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Sacristan. Other memberships include the Altar Society, Daughter’s of Isabella, VFW and Kansas for Life. She was also an active card player, participating in Bridge Marathon.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Rickert, of the home; two sons, David Rickert, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Fr. John Rickert, FSSP, of Maple Hill; two daughters, Christine (Mark) Becker of Hutchinson, and Barbara (Jim) Lubbe of Goddard; four brothers, Joseph Matza of Stone Mountain, Ga., James (Barbara) Matza of Las Vegas, Nev., Jerome Matza of Wichita and John (Barbara) Matza, of Woodbridge, Va.; two sisters, Loretta (Mike) Gilbert of Garden City, and LaVerna Coleman of Wichita; sister-in-law, Jeanine Gowdy; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister Louise Peloza.
Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father John Forkuoh presiding. Burial will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m., today at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. There will be an altar society rosary at 3 p.m. and a 7 p.m. wake service and rosary at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph’s A/C Fund, or Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary, Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) in care of the funeral home.
