ELLINWOOD — Manuel M. Castillo, 77, passed away at his home in Ellinwood, Kan., surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Namiquipa, Chihuahua, Mexico to parents Macedonio and Anastasia (Miranda) Castillo on March 24, 1943. He moved to Yuma, Colo. in 1967, and later to Ellinwood, Kan. in 1986. He married Josefina Vasquez on Aug. 22, 1964. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage.
Manuel worked as a farmer and rancher at various locations in the area in addition to working for the city of Ellinwood. He loved to garden, fish, and was a skilled metalworker that was always working on a project. Around Ellinwood, he could be recognized in his red 1967 Ford pick-up. Manuel was a wonderful father and grandfather. He never missed a chance to spend time with his beloved grandchildren.
Survivors include wife, Josefina (Vasquez) Castillo; daughters, Norma (Bill) Rapagnani, Ft. Collins, Colo., and Sandra (Dan) Coil, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; son, Alfredo Castillo, Great Bend, Kan.; siblings, Saul Castillo, Yuma, Colo., Adan Castillo, Chihuahua, Mexico, and Guadalupe Castillo, Chihuahua, Mexico. Other survivors include grandchildren, Shannon (Landon) Cook, Kyler (Kami) Castillo, Madison Castillo, Colton (Claudia) Rapagnani, Analeese Rapagnani, Aniston Coil, Maxwell “Pollo” Coil and great-grandchildren, Holden Rapagnani, Carter Cook, Graceleigh Peters, and Rhett Peters.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 27th at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, Kan., with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Visitation will be at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood on Wednesday, Aug. 26th from 11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Rosary service will be 7 p.m. that evening at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood.
