GREAT BEND — Margaret A. Shauers, 68, died March 17, 2012 at her home in Great Bend.
Born Nov. 20, 1943 in Hoisington, she was the daughter of John F. and Leona Anne (Stegman) Krmela.
On April 14, 1959, she married Gerald D. Crotinger in Olmitz. They were later divorced. On Dec. 27, 1962, she married Delbert M. Shauers in Ness City. He died Sept. 9, 1995.
A longtime resident of Great Bend, she was a freelance author and novelist having had many novels, short stories and poetry works published. She was owner and operator of Shauers’ Engine Service. She also worked as a staff writer at Barton County Community College in the communication department and taught creative writing at the college.
Mrs. Shauers was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend where she also taught Sunday School and was a nursery attendant. She was a member of Kansas Author’s Club.
Survivors include companion, friend and caregiver, Gerald D. Crotinger, Hays; a son, James “Butch” Crotinger and his wife, Laura A. Ward, Santa Fe, N.M.; two daughters, Rochelle Shauers, Overland Park; and Debra Shauers, Bentley; a son-in-law, Craig Borger, Ogallah; and seven grandchildren, Jamie Crotinger, Jeff Crotinger, Emily Ward, Eric Borger, Lisa Borger, Shawna Borger and Brady Borger.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Suzanne Irene Crotinger.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Dr. Scott Solether officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Ness City Cemetery.
