Margie Ruth (Vance) Emerson, Great Bend, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2018 at Cherry Village. Margie was born on Aug. 20, 1932 in Lafontaine, Kan. to Naomi and Howard Vance. She was a 1950 graduate of Great Bend High School.
She married L. Raymond Emerson on Feb. 11, 1952 and they had three sons, Mark Raymond, Max Richard, and Mitchell Ray. She was co-owner of Emerson Floor and Wall Covering and later was the secretary for Trinity United Methodist Church. During her life she promoted a spirit of service and volunteered at St. Rose Hospital and Larned State Hospital, with the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, and was active in United Methodist Women. As a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, her faith was very important to her. She enjoyed painting, drawing, and sewing.
She is preceded in death by her parents and step-father, Gerald D. Axtell; husband L. Raymond Emerson; son Mark Raymond Emerson; and brother David Lee Axtell. Survivors include sons Max Richard Emerson, El Mirage, Ariz. and Mitchell Ray (Tara) Emerson, Peoria, Ariz.; and her sister, Deanna Axtell Yu, Palos Verdes, Calif.; and her brother, James Axtell, Kingman, Ariz.;, as well as special “daughters” Oanh “Charlie” Bui and Cuc “Cortne” Bui. She had five grandchildren, Andrea Emerson, Great Bend, Elizabeth Blick (Kevin), Overland Park, Adam Emerson, Liberty, Mo., Mackenzie and Marcus Emerson, Peoria, Ariz. She had three great-grandchildren.
No visitiation will take place. Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2018 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend, with Pastor Seong Lee presiding.
