The judge now presiding over the Barton County case against a juvenile accused in the April 8 death of Great Bend teenager Rubi Perez has reopened court records to the public, according to Barton County District Court officials.
The Great Bend Tribune was informed on April 28 that the case had been reassigned to Levi Morris, 20th Judicial District Judge for Barton County, who rescinded the April 16 sealing order signed by Magistrate Judge Timarie Ann Walters. The case has since been restored to the Kansas Judicial Branch online case portal.
Kansas Juvenile Justice Code protections for juveniles not being tried as adults, including non-disclosure of the juvenile’s identity without a court order, remain in effect.
