Martha E. Merten 1932 - 2014

GREENSBORO, N.C. —  Martha E. Merten died on Feb. 11, 2006, at her home in Greensboro, N.C., Born in 1932, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd W. and Margaret D. Merten. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1950. In 1954 she received her baccalaureate degree from Oklahoma College for Women and in 1960 she received a master’s degree in Reading Development from the University of Michigan.
Survivors at the time of  her death included her lifetime friend, Marilyn L. Miller. Present survivors include three sisters, Mary Anne Mull of Great Bend, Rachael Miller of Eufaula, Okla., and Rebecca Hahn of St. Charles, Mich.; a brother, Robert Merten of Denver, Colo.; and 17 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sally.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Great Bend Cemetery with the Rev. Julie Shields officiating. Friends and family will gather at the First Congregational Church in Great Bend following the service.
