HOLYROOD — Martha Joan Linton, 89, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020 in Lyons. She was born March 19, 1931 in Beloit, Kan. to Lyle J. and Martha C. (Poulton) White.
Martha was raised in Mitchell County and graduated from Beloit High School, Class of 1948. She married Norman Eugene “Gene” Linton in Beloit on April 30, 1950. The couple lived in Beloit, Simpson, Hunter, Hays, Troy, and Lenora where Gene taught and was superintendent of schools. In 1969 they moved to Holyrood, Kan. where she was a member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ as well as the church’s Ladies’ Guild. She is best remembered for her love of the KU Jayhawks, especially the basketball teams, vintage to current. She is also remembered for her delicious scratch yeast rolls, her collection of Hallmark ornaments, and as a busy Avon Lady.
Martha is survived by her daughter, Susan Mehler (Jon) of Topeka, Kan.; son, Monte Linton (Angela) of Great Bend, Kan.; daughter, Shelley Rippen (Roger) of Olathe, Kan.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; son, Mark Linton; and brother, Donald White.
A private family graveside service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, Holyrood.
