Martha Lu (Johnson) McKown, 84, died March 20 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born April 16,1929, in Borger, Texas, she was the daughter of Everett T. “Bill” and Pearl (Baggerly) Johnson. On Jan. 18, 1953, she married George Monnet McKown in Cherokee, Okla. He died on March 11, 2008. A Great Bend resident since 1965, she was the vice president and chief financial officer for DaMac Drilling.
Survivors include three sons, David McKown and his wife Jan of Great Bend, Charles McKown and his wife Gina of Fort Scott, and James McKown and his wife Meg of Stilwell; one sister, Peggy Johnson Lippert of San Antonio, Texas; sister-in-law, Wanda Johnson of Stillwater, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Jenna McKown, Justin McKown, Josh McKown, Michelle Calvert, William McKown, Cole McKown, and Cade McKown; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Bill J. McKown; and one brother, Billy Buford Johnson.
A joint memorial service for Mrs. McKown and her son, Bill, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the First Christian Church in Great Bend with Pastor Josh Leu officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Gage Cemetery in Gage, Okla. Memorials are requested to First Christian Church, in care of the funeral home.
