LA CROSSE — Marvin Dean “Porky” Holopirek, 85, died April 18, 2017, at Locust Grove Village in La Crosse. Born Dec. 30, 1931, in Timken, he was the son of Ralph G. and Blanche J. (Smrcka) Holopirek. On Sept. 22, 1953, he married Evelyn J. Feldman at the United Methodist Church in Nekoma. She preceded him in death August 22, 2011. A lifelong resident of Rush County, he owned and operated Holopirek Wrecker & Trenching Service. The last 20 years before his retirement, he was a farmer/rancher.
Mr. Holopirek was a United States Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in La Crosse and the Sunflower Polka Club.
Survivors include, two daughters, Kathy Janousek of La Crosse and Karen Harris (Dwayne), of Warsaw, Mo.; four grandchildren, Ginger Shook (Chad), of Hoisington, Jill Zordel (Nolan), of La Crosse, Jamie Herrman of Timken, and Heather Herrman of Savage, Mont.; nine great-grandchildren, Shelby Graf, Dalton Janousek, Andrew Zordel, Brooklyn Shook, Jessica Cole, Gavin Herrman, Alleyah Burgardt, Maddix Burgardt and Hudson Burgardt; and one great-great-grandchild, Hayden Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son-in-law, Craig Janousek; four brothers, Ralph Holopirek, Arthur “Bud” Holopirek, Robert “Bob” Holopirek and Donnie Holopirek; and five sisters, Dorothy Stejskal, Neva Stejskal, Irene Holopirek, Inez Schiedeman and Marie Reifschneider.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse with Pastor Angie Vertz officiating. Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery.
