Marvin J. Dumler 1921 - 2015

RUSSELL — Marvin J. Dumler died Oct. 5, 2015. Born Sept. 7, 1921, in rural Russell County, he was the son of Jacob and Lydia Dumler. He attended Valparaiso University in Indiana where he earned his BA in education in 1943. He then signed up for officers’ training school at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in the Chicago area.
In April 1945, he married Esther Wegele. After the war, Marvin resumed his education, obtaining his Masters in Education at Fort Hays State College, and Doctor of Education at the University of Kansas. He was a teacher in Hoisington, Bethany College in Lindsborg, and Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Ill.
Survivors include his wife, Esther; his children Charles, Diane, Douglas, Cynthia and Cathryn; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
