HOISINGTON — Mary Ann Wondra, 74, died Dec. 19 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born Aug. 26, 1938, in rural Barton County, the daughter of Arthur F. and Mary (Busch) Maneth. She married Bernard Wondra June 8, 1959, at Olmitz. A lifelong Barton County resident, she worked as a teller at Hoisington National bank for 25 years until retirement.
Mrs. Wondra was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Altar Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She served as chairperson for United Way of Hoisington and volunteered for several years driving the trolley in Hoisington. She also helped make quilts for the Altar Society’s annual raffle.
She enjoyed, quilting, reading, cooking, flowers, and spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons, Dave Wondra and wife Martha, Hoisington, and Jim Wondra, Overland Park; one daughter, Diane Applegate and husband Randy, Shawnee; two sisters, Beatrice Schneweis, Hoisington, and Marjorie Thomas and husband Bob, Ellinwood; grandchildren, Michael Wondra, Brandy Wondra, Jill Applegate and Evan Applegate; step-grandchildren, Tiffany Hurter, Tamara Hurter, Abigail Hurter and Jesse Pribble; and great-grandchildren, Hayden Wondra, Alexis Wondra and Jayla Wondra. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Arthur Maneth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington, with con-celebrants Father Francis Oroffa and Father Ultan Murphy. Interment will be at St. John Church Cemetery, Hoisington. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington. There will be a vigil at 7 p.m. Friday at the church, followed by an altar society rosary. Memorial donations are suggested to Heartland Cancer Center, Kans for Kids or St. John Cemetery Fund, in care of the funeral home.
