ELLINWOOD — Mary Eileen McQuade, 87, died Nov. 9 at Leisure Homestead, St. John. She was born July 10, 1923, at Frontenac, the daughter of Joseph Charles and Anne Virginia Kelly Lavery. She had been an Ellinwood resident since 1958. She married Peter John McQuade on Feb. 19, 1945, at Frontenac. He died Oct. 31, 2003. She was a homemaker and worked at a munitions plant in southeast Kansas during World War II. She was a secretary for Mount Carmel Hospital in Pittsburg and for Kan/Colo Credit Union in Ellinwood.
Mrs. McQuade was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellinwood, its Altar Society and the Legion of Mary.
Survivors include five sons, Michael McQuade and Mark McQuade, both of Ellinwood, Timothy McQuade of Hoisington, Owen McQuade of Russell and Dennis McQuade of O’Fallon, Mo.; four daughters, Patricia Engelhardt of Winslow, Ariz., Kathleen Mass of Ralston, Neb., Elaine Kallaus of South Hutchinson and Maureen Schwartz of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; a sister, Rita White of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Tom Lavery of Baxter Springs; 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin; a daughter, Mary Anne; brothers, Jim Lavery, Joseph Lavery and Robert Lavery; and a sister, Margaret Caruso.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ellinwood, with Father Charles Mazouch officiant. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Kimple Funeral Home, Ellinwood. An Altar Society rosary at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, and a vigil at 7 p.m. at the church, will both occur on Friday. Burial will be at the Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph’s School Foundation, Public School and Library Foundation or the Hospice Health Care of Kansas.
