DORRANCE — Matilda Anna Lucile Hoch, 88, of Dorrance, died on April 10, at the Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth. Born March 13, 1923 in Wilson, she was the daughter of Wenzel and Albina (Soukup) Janda.  She grew up and attended school in the Wilson area as a child.  Later she met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Guy Robert Hoch on March 5, 1940 in Russell.  From this union Matilda and Guy were blessed with four children Emery, Leonard, Florence and Dennis. Her husband Guy preceded her in death on July 23, 1996. As was customary during that time period, Matilda was a homemaker and enjoyed tending to her husband and children. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, polka music and flower gardening. She also loved singing her favorite song, “You Are My Sunshine” to her kids and grandkids. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter Florence M. Klein of Russell; three sons, Emery D. Hoch of Hoisington, Leonard R. Hoch of Russell and Dennis L. Hoch of Dorrance; seven grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Winslow and Emil Janda.
A celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dorrance with Father James Hoover officiating. Burial will follow the mass at the Bunker Hill Cemetery. A vigil service and rosary will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.
