Melba Jean Stos 1930 - 2021

Melba Jean Stos, 90, passed away July 8, 2021, at Hays Medical Center. She was born November 14, 1930, in Olmitz to George & Augusta (Springer) Nordman. She married Leo Stos, Sr. September 8, 1948, in Olmitz. He died December 16, 1995.

A lifetime Barton county resident, Melba worked for Superior Essex as a twinner operator and farmed along with her husband in the Otis area. Never having idle hands, she was also a caregiver and house cleaner. Having a great deal of pride, Melba kept her own home spotless, as well, which was a trait that was carried on and taught to many.  She never knew a stranger, and her home was always open. Melba was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends, especially for her grandchildren. 

Survivors include her children, Aggie Lang of Salina, Shari Miller and husband Maynard of Great Bend, Lou Ann Legleiter and her husband Norman of Liebenthal, Betty Miller, Leo Stos, Jr. and Charlotte, Gene Stos and wife Kristi and Steve Stos all of Great Bend; a brother, Maurice Nordman of Great Bend; two sisters, Norma Knight of Wichita and Margie Purdy of LaCrosse; Fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Leo Stos, Sr.; a son in law, Fritz Lang; a daughter in law, Mona Stos; a sister, Alice Oborny. 

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society rosary at 4:00 p.m., with family to receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, July 12, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home with Father Prakash Kola, MSFS presiding. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorial have been designated to Almost Home or Golden Belt Home Health & Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
