GREAT BEND — Melvin D. Loreg, 92, passed away August 26, 2020, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born on July 6, 1928, at Codell, Kan., to Mike & Eva (Cline) Loreg. He married Joyce Ann Benoit on November 26, 1955, at Phillipsburg. She died February 26, 2004.
A longtime Great Bend resident, Melvin had previously lived in Hays and Plainville. Melvin was a longtime oilfield employee, enjoying all aspects of the industry. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, Sunflower Polka Club, American Legion Argonne Post #180, and VFW Post #3111.
Survivors include, two sons, Clifford Loreg and wife Sabrina of Great Bend, and Melvin “Junior” Loreg and wife Tanna of Wichita; a daughter, Jeanette Sanders and husband Mike of Great Bend; three brothers, Mike “Junior” Loreg of Hoisington, Dean Loreg of Topeka, and Darrell Loreg of Clinton, Mo.; two sisters, Marjoria Lois Beockner of Hays, and LaDonna Lytle of Great Bend; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Ann Loreg; five sisters; and two infant brothers.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Father Louis Trung Dinh Hoang presiding. Inurnment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted by the Army National Guard. Memorials are suggested to the Prince of Peace Parish or American Legion Post #180, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
