HOUSTON, Texas — Michael “Mike” Gates, 82, born Sept. 25, 1939 in Great Bend, Kan., passed on to be with his Lord and Savior at his home in Houston, Texas on Dec. 27, 2021.
Mike was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Tactical Air Command and Alumni of the Argonne Drum & Bugle Corps. He was proud to be a member of the American Legion Post 490 for many years. He attended KSTC College Emporia Kansas and had an Associates Degree from Wichita State University. He was also an Alumni of the Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity.
Mike worked at UNOCAL Corp for over 20 years, until he retired and was a member of the American Association of Individual Investors. He always enjoyed his daily Wall Street Journal and Stock market readings.
Mike attended Clear Lake United Methodist Church as a member and sang in the CLUMC Sanctuary Choir. This brought him great joy, he loved singing about his Savior, especially during the Christmas season.
Michael loved his family and is survived by his son Mark Gates, wife Kim, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren and daughter Julie Gates; his sisters Diana Frohardt, husband Lou, children Laura and Doug and Wendy Gates, and children Brooke and Aaron. He is predeceased by his parents Walter H. Gates and Lillian M. Gates.
A graveside service in his honor will be held Friday, Feb. 11, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery (10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston Tx, 77038) In lieu of flowers, donations to ptsdusa.org for Camp Hope.
