Mildred Irene Pelton, 99, died July 31 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born Nov. 8, 1913, in Inman, she was the daughter of William C. and Dora (Harder) Hassman. On March 12, 1935, she married Charles F. German. He died on April 18, 1961. She then married Lowell Henry Pelton on Aug. 12, 1978, at Claflin. He died on Jan. 7, 2002. A resident of Claflin from 1945 until she moved to Cherry Village in 2009, she was a payroll clerk for Central Kansas Medical Center and a secretary at Claflin High School.
Mrs. Pelton was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Claflin Booster Club, all of Claflin and Big Bend Good Sam Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Lara at Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren, Joel Lara of Dallas, Texas, and Chuck Glaze of Wichita; great-grandchild, Jesse Paul Glaze; two stepsons, Loren Pelton of Dallas, Texas and Wayne Pelton of Wichita; one stepdaughter, Nadine Dolan of Traverse City, Mich.; five step-grandchildren, Lori, Chris, Lance, Courtney and Lon; and eight step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vada Glaze; two brothers, Irvan Hassman and Evert Hassman; and one sister, Verda Walker.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Claflin United Methodist Church with Pastor Gene Langhofer officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bean Cemetery in Little River. Friends may visit from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home.
