Milton E. Achatz 1924 - 2016

ELLINWOOD — Milton E. Achatz, 92, died Oct. 23, 2016, at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Sept. 11, 1924, in Ellinwood, he was the son of Henry John and Rose Koch Achatz. On Nov. 18, 1947, he married Bertha L. Birzer at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, north of Ellinwood. A lifetime resident of Ellinwood, he was a retired farmer and a township maintenance operator for Lakin Township.
Mr. Achatz was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 1187, both of Ellinwood.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha of the home; four sons, John and Bonnie Achatz, of Lyons, Charlie and Barbara Achatz, Paul Achatz and Gerald and Glenna Achatz, all of Great Bend; a brother, Bill Achatz of Ellinwood; a sister, Delores Hauser of Ellinwood; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Lester Achatz; four brothers, Elmer, Richard, Tom, and Robert Achatz; and two sisters, Ada Woydziak and Dorothy Achatz.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Burial will be at Lakin Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood, with a Parish Vigil at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Peter and Paul Historical Fund
or Woodhaven Care Center in care of the funeral home.
