ULYSSES — Mollie Martina Beard, 92, died June 7, 2012 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
She was born July 24, 1919 in Seward, the daughter of Henry H. (Hank) and Florence M. (Mullen) Schilling.
Mollie grew up in Seward and graduated from Radium High School in 1937. She taught in the Stafford County country schools and worked at the county ASC office.  Mollie married Clyde E. Beard in Lyons Sept. 27, 1941, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1991.
During World War II, Mollie lived in Hutchinson and worked at First National Bank. After the war, Mollie and Clyde owned and operated Beard Cleaners in Stafford.  Mollie and Clyde moved to Ulysses in 1965.  She was a secretary and bookkeeper for Houck Brothers. She was the State President for Business and Professional Women in 1985, a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and was on the church-calling committee, played bridge and was an active bowler.  Mollie was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed watching KU play.    
She is survived by a son, Gardell Beard, Ulysses; a daughter, Denise Beard, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Vernon Schilling, Stafford; a sister-in-law, Rita Schilling, Seward; a granddaughter, Annette Brown, and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Brown both of Colorado Springs, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde on March 27, 1999; and two brothers, Homer, and Gail; and a sister, Alline.
A memorial service was held Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with Reverend Wayne Flanders officiating.  A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Stafford Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given, in lieu of flowers, to the First United Methodist Church of Ulysses, Grant County Scholarship Foundation or American Cancer Society in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS,  67880.
