Myrtle Katherine Pitts, 89, died Jan. 3 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born June 23, 1922, in Beaver, she was the daughter of John and Pearl (Hinderliter) Christians. She graduated from Hoisington High School in 1940. On March 16, 1941, she married Herbert L. Pitts in Beaver. He died Feb. 23, 2007. She was a homemaker and helped establish a family farm near Beaver with her husband, where they lived for 54 years before making Great Bend their home the past 18 years. She loved sewing and quilting.
Mrs. Pitts was a member of the First Christian Church of the Nazarene, WCTU and Quilters Guild. She was a 70-year member of Beaver Friends Church. She served her churches as a Sunday School teacher and a choir member.
Survivors include a son, Donald G. Pitts of Great Bend; a daughter, Jerree Ehrlich and husband Larry of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a brother, Robert Christians of Valley Center; four grandchildren, Kim Sell and husband Roger of Great Bend, Tami Flaspohler and husband Kevin of Ponca City, Okla., Kara Potter and husband Jeff of Claflin, and Tonia Jordan and husband Jason of Bixby, Okla.; and nine great-grandchildren, Conner Sell, Kendal Sell, Ryan Flaspohler, Jake Flaspohler, Luke Flaspohler, Annie Potter, Zoe Potter, Jaxon Jordan and Lexi Jordan. She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Christians; and a sister, Lola Wright.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Great Bend, with the Rev. Josh Foster and the Rev. Mark Pennington officiating. Burial will be at the Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the First Church of the Nazarene, in care of the funeral home.
