HOISINGTON — Neta Richards Johnson, 100, died Jan. 9, 2015, at Country Place Senior Living.
She was born Jan. 31, 1914, in Churdan, Iowa, the daughter of Zala F. and Mabel (Culver) Richards.
She married James Benjamin Johnson on Sept. 19, 1943. He died Feb. 6, 1991.
Neta grew up in Maxwell, Iowa and was reared by her maternal grandmother and step-grandfather after her parents died during the flu epidemic of 1919. After marriage and the birth of her two daughters, Neta moved with her family to Hays. She was active in the First United Methodist Church and was secretary for the Farm Bureau Agency of Hays. Neta loved to travel and spent may happy times accompanying her husband who was a traveling magazine salesman.
The final 13 years of her life were spent at Country Place Senior Living. She was one of the original occupants and loved her time there.
She is survived by two daughters; Judy Lenore Johnson, married to Gunter Hofmann, Lincoln, Neb.; and Ann Elizabeth married to Lon Palmer, Hoisington; and by two grandchildren, Adam D. Palmer, and wife Christina, Hutchinson; and Elizabeth Rohrer and husband Matt, Hermosa Beach, Calif.; and five great grandchildren.
Neta was preceded in death by her sister. Mazie Richards Nuzum, and by her brother, Roscoe Culver Richards.
A private family interment will take place on Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at Mt. Allen Cemetery, Hays, with a graveside service to be held later in April.
