Norman W. Stieben 1918 - 2011

OTIS — Norman W. Stieben, 93, died Nov. 29 at his home in Otis. Born Oct. 24, 1918, in Brownell, he was the son of Fred and Julia (Schlegel) Stieben. In 1938, he graduated from Otis Rural High School. He was a lifelong resident of Otis.

On Aug. 10, 1941, he married Alice E. Weltmer at the United Methodist Church in Otis. She preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2008. Mr. Stieben and his brother Lester were co-owners of Stieben Service and Garage in Otis from November 1947 until his retirement in December 2004. He was also employed as a rural Assistant Postal Carrier for many years.

Mr. Stieben was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. After World War II he served in the Reserves for many years, retiring as a Warrant Officer 4. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Otis, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9137 in Otis.

Survivors include a son, Larry W. Stieben and wife Patty Stieben, of Otis; a sister, Lenora M. Ochs, of Great Bend; and two grandchildren, Tara Stieben of Otis and Hope Stieben of Dodge City. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lester Stieben.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the United Methodist Church in Otis, with the Rev. Diana Hill officiating. Burial will be at the Otis Methodist Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9:30-10:20 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Otis or Friendship Meals in LaCrosse.
