Orlin Lesle Loucks

Orlin Leslie Loucks, 81, passed away March 9, 2024, at Medicalodges of Great Bend, Great Bend, Kan. He was born March 5, 1943, in Gossell, Kan., to Vernon and Pearl (Koehn) Loucks.  Orlin married Eudora “Dora” Beck March 9, 1963, in Montezuma, Kan. She survives.

Orlin had been a resident of Great Bend since 2012, coming from Protection, Kan. Learning the meaning of hard work and dedication at an early age, Orlin’s family owned and operated Protection Automotive and Loucks Service for over 50 years. After retirement and moving to Great Bend, Orlin worked for Bob’s Service Center, Claflin, and Carquest and Dillons both in Great Bend. Orlin was a member of Protection Mennonite Church, where he faithfully served as an Elder, and served on the Kiowa County Memorial Hospital Board, Greensburg, and the Valley Manor Hospital Board, Protection. In his past time, Orlin enjoyed fishing, traveling, and singing in the musical group, “Second Generation.” However, above all, Orlin valued and treasured his relationship with his Savior Jesus Christ, whom he gave his life to at an early age.

Survivors include his wife, Dora of the home; two sons, Leslie Loucks and wife Rhonda of Halstead, Kan., and Mark Loucks and wife DeNay of Otis, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Andrew Loucks and wife Jennifer, Christopher Loucks, Bethanny Bowen and husband Jordan, David Loucks, Nathan Loucks, Joshua Loucks, Isabelle Loucks, Tanner Loucks, and Kailyn Loucks; three great grandchildren, Amelia Loucks, Eliana Loucks and Daniel Bowen; and one sister Marlene Vargas of Chicago. Also surviving are Dora’s siblings, Nancy Ummel and husband Tom, and Shirley Smart and husband Bob all of Great Bend. He is preceded in passing by his brother, Lynn Loucks; and Dora’s siblings, Robert Beck and Lois Koehn. 

Cremation has taken place. Services are pending at Mennonite Cemetery, Protection, and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Great Bend Public Library or the Mennonite Cemetery Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bends, KS  67530.
