ELLINWOOD — Patrick J. Schartz, 66, died Dec. 20, 2011 at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City.
Born Dec. 8, 1945 in Great Bend, he was the son of Nicholas Albert Schartz and Aileen A. Kimpler Schartz.
In 1963, he graduated from Ellinwood High School. He was a graduate of Friends University. On July 19, 1969 he married Kathleen A. Heinz in Ellinwood. A lifetime resident of Ellinwood, he was the retired owner/operator of the Dairy Queen. He was a retired volunteer fireman.
Mr. Schartz was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood, Knights of Columbus Post 1187, president of the Ellinwood Commission on Aging and served on the Parish Council and School Council.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen A. Schartz, of the home; a son, Patrick L. Schartz and wife Monica, Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Jennifer Theede and husband Mitch, Columbia, Mo.; a sister, DeSales Feist, Ellinwood; a brother, Thomas Schartz, Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Ryan and Erin Theede, and Carter and Ava Schartz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Charles, Leon, Loren, Kenneth, Vernon, Norbert and Gerald; and two sisters, Celesta Bennett and Mary Bowes.
Funeral services are scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father Charles Mazouch officiating. Burial will be at the Lakin-Commanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. An Altar Society Rosary is scheduled at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A vigil is scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church followed by Knights of Columbus Rosary. Friends may visit from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or St. Joseph’s School Living Legacy Fund.
