Paul E. Dyer, 84, died Oct. 8 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Feb. 20, 1930, in Great Bend, he was the son of Homer and Katherine (Jones) Dyer. On Jan. 4, 1954, he married Julitta M. Elsen, in Great Bend. She died on March 12, 1995. He was a lifetime resident of Great Bend.
Mr. Dyer served during the Korean War as a PFC in the United States Army. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose Catholic Church, American Legion Argonne Post 180, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111, and the Cheyenne Sportsmen Club, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include three sons, Steve Dyer and wife Connie of Great Bend, Larry Dyer of Hutchinson, and Nick Dyer of Great Bend; one daughter, Paula Martin of Great Bend; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Preslie, Leah, and Peyton, and one expected in January. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Larry Dyer, and by one sister, Barbara Wray.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. A private family inurnment will be held at Great Bend Cemetery with military rites conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to St. Rose Foundation to benefit Heartland Cancer Center or Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice or V.F.W. Post 3111, in care of the funeral home.
