Paul M. Maier, 68, died Oct. 26, at Pinnacle Park in Salina. Born Feb. 13, 1943 at Hays, he was the son of Henry and Tabea (Dietz) Maier. A lifelong resident of Barton County, he graduated from Otis High School. On Sept. 3, 1963, he married Nadine Nolte in Ellinwood. They later divorced but remained friends. He worked at Thies Packing Plant in Great Bend for many years and later worked various oilfield jobs retiring from Magellan. He enjoyed fishing, nature, bird watching and loved animals.
Mr. Maier was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia.
Survivors include a son, Rodney Maier and wife Cherlyn of Claflin; a sister, Shirley Hartwick and husband Stewart of Smolan; a brother, Harlan Maier and wife Rebecca of Hoisington; five grandchildren, Rebecca Maier, Ashlee Maier, Aimee Maier, Aaron Maier, Andrew Maier. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Galatia with Pastor Adam Wutka officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery at Galatia. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.
