Richard Buess

Richard Buess, 84, passed away Dec. 15, 2020, at Divine Care Home, Wichita. He was born June 14, 1936, at Great Bend, to Walter and Mary Buess. 

Richard proudly served his county in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1954-1958. During that time, he was stationed in Hawaii, Japan and Adac, Alaska. Returning from his tour of duty, Richard married in 1959 and later divorced. To this union were born four children, Karlyn, Richard, Rodney, and Kerri. In 1995 he married Doris Montgomery in Great Bend. 

Although he worked in the oilfields of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, as well as Scotland for a period of time, Richard always considered Great Bend his home. Later years found him doing mechanical work on cars, then oilfield trucks. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Great Bend. Richard enjoyed fishing, reading and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. 

Survivors include, his wife Doris of the home; three sons, Richard Buess, Rodney Buess, and Jeff Lutt and wife Melissa, all of Great Bend; three daughters, Karlyn Jantz and husband Karl of Pecos, Texas, Kerrie Buess of Great Bend, and Michelle Hertel of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Margie Buess of Fort Worth, Texas; ten grandchildren, Kody Jantz, Kory Jantz, Kalyn Jantz, Kasey Jantz, Hope Buess, Derrick Buess, Jessica Hertel, Barrett Lutt, Ellie Lutt, and Destiny Stickney; and five great grandchildren, Dallas Buess, Jamie Lynn Buess, Deseree Buess, Jarex Buess, and Alexa Buess. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Buess and an infant brother; as well as a grandson, Dustin Buess. 

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m., Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. Interment will be in Great Bend Cemetery North, with Military Rites conducted by the United States Marine Corp. In lieu of flowers, memorials are designated to Golden Belt Humane Society or Rivercross Hospice in Wichita, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
