Richard “Dick” Dailey

Richard “Dick” Dailey, 89, passed away April 20, 2024, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kan. He was born on Oct. 24, 1934, in Great Bend, Kan., to John and Edith (Kummer) Dailey. On July 3, 1964, he married Merna Stone in Denver, Colo. They later divorced, with their union being blessed with two daughters and a son prior. Dick then married Martha “Martie” Taylor on Oct. 19, 1984. She passed in June 1988.

A resident of Great Bend for over 30 years, having spent time in Colorado and various other states, Dick worked as a cashier for Dillons while in Kansas and assistant manager at King Soopers in Colorado. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Because of this service, he was able to take part in a Kansas Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2014. Dick was member of the Prince of Peace Parish, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post #180, serving as commander. Dick was dedicated to volunteering with these groups, including adoration, bingo and Helping People with Disabilities Tootsie Roll Donation. He was a talker, who enjoyed good conversation and supporting his community and nation. 

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Rutt and husband Chuck of Windsor, Colo., and Sandra Dailey of Severance, Colo.; granddaughter, Kyla Rutt of Windsor, Colo.; first wife, Merna Dailey; 16 nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; and stepdaughter, Felicia Taylor of Georgia. He is preceded in death by infant son, Richard Jr.; wife, Martie; his parents; five brothers, James, William, Jack Jr., Donald “Dee”, and Jerry Dailey; and six sisters, Gwen Bible, Peggy Dailey, Patricia Dillard, Eleanor Dailey, Dorotha “Dottie” Hershey, and Janiece Burke; and nephews, John Dailey and Paul Hershey.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Prakash Kola presiding, with Knights of Columbus Rosary held prior to service at 9:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery with military honors presented by McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard.
