HOLYROOD — Richard E. Johnson, 77, died Jan. 18, at his home. Born Oct. 18, 1937, in West Grove, Pa. he was the son of Samuel H. and Blanche A. Johnson. He grew up in Rising Sun, Md. On Aug. 30, 1958, he married Grace Wilkens Johnson in Lorraine. She survives. A resident of Holyrood since 2005, having moved from the farm 3 miles east of town, he was a farmer and rancher.
Mr. Johnson was a member of the Bushton United Methodist Church where he was active on the Administrative Council Board. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 200 Holyrood and Masonic Lodge 146 of Ellsworth. He served many years on the Ellsworth Co. Draft Board, Ellsworth County Conservation District Board, Valley Township Board, USD 328 School Board, and Ellsworth County Medical Center Board.
Other survivors include his son, Dan and wife Sherry Johnson of Lorraine; two daughters, Debbie Deem and husband Tom of Thornton, Colo. and Patty Child of Valley Center; seven grandchildren: Katelyn Johnson, Alyssa Johnson, Alicia Grover, Samantha Deem, Sydney Deem, Cassidy Child, and Jackson Child. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Andy Child.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Bushton United Methodist Church with a private family burial before the service at the Lorraine Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bushton United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
