Richard E. Newick, 42, died Sept. 16 in Barton County, Kansas as the result of a motor vehicle accident. He was born March 4, 1970 at Reading, England, the son of Eric and Lorraine (Baker) Newick.
He married Shonda Wilburn Nov. 13, 1998 at Great Bend.   Mr. Newick was a Great Bend resident for sixteen years coming from Chepstow, England.
He attended Trinity Lutheran Church and was a Kansas Board of Emergency Services certified MICT, working for Russell County EMS and Midwest Life Team.  He had previously worked for the Great Bend Fire Department.  He was an American Heart Association Basic Life Support instructor and Heartsaver instructor, an Emergency Pediatric Care instructor, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support instructor.
Survivors include wife Shonda Newick of the home; mother and step-father, Lorraine and Frank James, Chepstow, England; two sons, Cody Newick and Eric Newick, of the home; one daughter,  Haley Newick of the home; and mother and father-in-law, Sandy and Reen Berges of Great Bend. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend with The Reverend James A. Strasen officiating. Inurnment will be at Great Bend Cemetery North, Great Bend. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at Bryant Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012 at the funeral home.
