Richard G. Bortz, 82, died May 28, 2016, at River Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend. He was born March 10, 1934, in Great Bend, the son of Oscar and Flora (Buehler) Bortz. He graduated from Claflin High School and then attended Kansas State University.
Richard was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army.
A longtime Great Bend resident, he had been the parts manager for Big A. He was also the past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3111, Great Bend.
Survivors include a sister, Marilyn Robl of Richmond, Va.; nephew, David Robl and wife Clara of Paoli, Pa.; a niece, Monica Robl of Richmond, Va.; and a granddaughter, Samantha. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, with the Rev. Dick Ogle presiding. Burial will follow in Claflin Cemetery. Friends may call 1-8 p.m. with family to receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.
