Richard Kent Feldman, 73, went to his Heavenly Home on Oct. 19, 2017. He was born March 23, 1944 in Great Bend to Harold and Clara Mae Kurth-Feldman.
He received his early education in Great Bend, Class of 1962, and graduated from Cowley Community College. He left Fort Hays University to enlist in the US Navy in 1963. He served proudly for 4 ½ years aboard the USS Hancock and the Bon Homme Richard Air Craft Carriers during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked for C&S Well Service in central Kansas and at the Great Bend Mulligren Electric Plant and later retired as a Water Treatment Specialist from the Winfield City Power Plant.
He married Elizabeth “Jackye” Strother in Garden Grove, Calif. in 1966, and lived in Lemoore, Calif. while he served in the US Navy. They moved to Great Bend in 1968 where they raised their family, and moved to Burden in 1990 and to Winfield in 2007.
He is survived by his parents, wife, Jackye, sons; Duane Feldman and wife Sandy of Great Bend and Todd Feldman of Winfield, daughters; Debbie Johnson of Topeka, Kathy Berglind and husband Bruce of Derby and son-in-law Roger Quint of Winfield. He was a proud grandpa to eight grandchildren, Katlyn and Erin Feldman, Timothy, Quinton, and Shala Johnson, Erica, Jonathan and Carly Berglind. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Tom and Deanna Thomas. He was preceded in death by his son Timothy Kent Feldman, daughter Susan Feldman-Quint, his grandparents, Herman and Francis Feldman and William and Anna Kurth.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Winfield and a lifetime member of the Winfield American Legion.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Central Baptist Church in Winfield. Inurnment with Military Committal Honors will take place on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Great Bend Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been established in Richard’s name for the Central Baptist Church children’s program and the Kansas Honor Flight. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
