Richard L. Dick Budig 1930-2011

Richard L. "Dick" Budig, 81, of Great Bend, died Friday, Aug. 19 at Great Bend Regional Hospital, Great Bend. He was born Feb. 9, 1930, at Redwing, the son of Anton and Eleanor (Mauler) Budig. Richard married Mary Ann Dobson May 20, 1949 at Stockton. She preceded him in death on April 30, 1998. He was a Great Bend resident since 1993 coming from Derby, working for Younger Energy as an oilfield pumper before retiring in 2007.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend, and Knights of Columbus Council #2100 in Olmitz, Kansas. He enjoyed gambling, reading, and watching John Wayne movies.

Survivors include one son: Gene Budig of Great Bend; five daughters: Barbara Sicks of Tulsa, Okla.; Joan Budig of Great Bend; Mickey Wayman of Mulvane; Sandy Stos of Tulsa, Okla.; and Brenda Budig Young of Great Bend; five sisters: Irene Sanders of Pacifica, Calif.; Kathy McGrath of Pleasant Hills, Calif.; Bea Axman of Olmitz; Lenora Hutton of Great Bend; and Helen Stos of Olmitz; two brothers: Art Budig of Woodward, Okla.; and Bernard Budig of Antioch, Calif.; sixteen grandchildren and thirty-seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gene Budig; one sister, Esther Saling and one great-grandson, Brogen Budig.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz. Father Ultan Murphy will be celebrant. Burial will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call today from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Heartland Cancer Center or Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
