Richard L. Worman 1925 - 2013

ELLINWOOD — Richard L. Worman, 88, died Aug. 12 at the VA Hospital in Wichita. Born June 10, 1925 in Three Sands, Okla., he was the son of John M. Worman and Ruby F. Cates Worman. On Oct. 7, 1958, he married Barbara A. Bryant in Ellinwood. A longtime resident of Ellinwood, he was a retired mail carrier and retired co-owner of Worman Standard Service of Ellinwood. He was the first baseman on the Ellinwood Merchants baseball team.
Mr. Worman was a World War II Navy veteran, serving on the USS Idaho. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 5657, American Legion Post 320.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Worman, of the home; two sons, Robert (Marti) Worman of Derby and Bruce Worman of Ellsworth; a daughter, Ruth (Randall) Amerine, of Lawrence; a brother, Benny (Barbara) Worman, of Ellinwood; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Derwin Worman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. John Lutheran church in Ellinwood with Pastor Jeff Frakes officiating. Burial will be at the Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may visit from 1 to 8 p.m. on Friday, with friends receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church, St. John CDC or the VFW.
