NESS CITY — Richard P. Ummel, 64, died July 4 at his home in Ness City. He was born on July 5, 1947, at Ransom, the son of Rolla and Edna Wittman Ummel. He was a retired truck driver for D&S Welding. On July 12, 1969, he married Cynthia Mauch in Ness City. They were later divorced.
Survivors include two sons, Jay Ummel, North Platte, Neb., and Jerry Gothenburg and his wife Amber, Nebraska; one brother, Donald R. Ummel and his wife Jackie, WaKeeney; two sisters, Fern Renner, Cheyenne Wells, Colo., and Doris Scott and her husband David, Ness City; six grandchildren; and very dear friend, Ellen Burns, Ransom. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Ummel.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 6, at the First Mennonite Church, Ransom. Inurnment will be in the Ransom Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Olin Cole American Legion Post 392 and the Sons of the American Legion, Bazine.
