Ricky “Rick” Dean Unruh

Ricky “Rick” Dean Unruh went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2022 while at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

Rick was born on March 5, 1966 in Great Bend, Kan. to Loren and Connie (Yeubanks) Unruh. Rick attended Great Bend High School where he was a member of the basketball team and his love for sports began. He went on to attend and play basketball at Central Bible College and later obtained his Masters degree, counseling, and grieving certifications. He grew up with a fierce love for God and knew he was called to the ministry after attending Wheat State Church Camp where he would also meet the love of his life. Anyone who knew Rick knew love and laughter because those were two of his favorite things to share with others. He will be greatly missed by many.

He is survived by his best friend and wife of 35 years, Tamela of Andover; two sons, Dake (Kristi) Unruh of Benton and Darian (Taylor) Unruh of Andover; grandchildren, Sadie, Londyn, Tate, and Landon Unruh; father, Loren (Gayle) Unruh of Great Bend; and sisters, Shawnda (Stan) Misina of Wilton, N.H. and Krista (Rich) Osborne of Riverdale, N.J. He was preceded in death by his son, Landon Tate Unruh as well as his mother, Connie Unruh.

Visitation services will be held Thursday, March 10th from 6-8 p.m. at Cozine Life Events Center (11500 E 21st St N, Wichita, KS). Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11th at 10:30 a.m. at Hope Church (2000 S Hillside, Wichita, KS). A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 12th at 1:30 p.m. at the Dundee Valley Cemetery (300-398 SW 56 Ave, Great Bend KS). In honor of Rick and his love of wild print dress shirts, the family is asking you wear one to the graveside service if possible. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Kansas Wheat State Youth Camp (where Rick met his wife) or the Landon Unruh memorial scholarship (which honors his love for his son and baseball as well as birthed the idea for the Dream Again Ministry). Both of these held a special place in Rick’s heart.
