GARDEN CITY — Robert G. Rowley, 88, died, Aug. 30 at the High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. He was born on Jan. 13, 1925, in Barton County, the son of Glen and Roberta “Bird” Murdy Rowley. On May 12, 1946, he married Darlene Phillips at Beaver. She died Sept. 6, 1999, in Wichita. A resident of Garden City since 1969, he worked in the oil field as a pumper and he also farmed.
Mr. Rowley was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Past President and Trustee of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Garden City.
Survivors include one daughter, Becky (David) Sells of Wilson; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Rowley of Holcomb; eight grandchildren, Richard Rowley of Ingolstadt, Germany, Daena Brown of Gatesville, Texas, Tye Zirkel of Holcomb, Hallie Mead of Grand Island, Neb., Julie Nemecheck of Holcomb, Wayne Combs of Garden City, Shane Sells of Christiana, Tenn., and Nikki Morgan of Long Beach, Calif.; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lynn Rowley, and three brothers, Russell, Roland and Richard Rowley.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. Interment will be at Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Eagles Lodge Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
