ELLINWOOD — Robert G. Thomas, 87, passed away on Oct. 18th at Salina Surgical Center. Born in Ellinwood, Kan. on July 2nd, 1934, he was the son of William A. and Marie (Schauf) Thomas.
A lifetime Ellinwood resident, he graduated from high school in 1953 and married Marjorie Maneth at St. Anne’s Church in Olmitz in 1958. They were married nearly 64 years. She survives of the home in Ellinwood, Kan. Additional survivors include sons, John Thomas and Danny Thomas; daughters, Joan McNett and Sharon Reichuber; brother, Bill Thomas; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by brother, Mike Thomas; son-in-laws, Gerald Reichuber and Raymond McNutt; sister-in-law, Marie Thomas; and two grandchildren, Alex Thomas and Ashley Reichuber.
Memberships include St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood and a 60+ year member of the Knights of Columbus council #1187 in Ellinwood. Robert enjoyed collecting antique tractors, playing cards, and donated his time as a board member for St. Joseph school. Robert worked as a farmer and rancher still working ground well into his 80s.
Funeral Mass will take place 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 21st at St. Joseph Church in Ellinwood with Father Klein officiating. Burial will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation will take place at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood from noon-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20th. Vigil service will take place at St. Joseph Church that evening at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Endowment Fund or St. Joseph grade school in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
