Robert L. “Bob” Henning, 87, went to be with the Lord Oct. 8, 2016 at his home in Barton county. Born Jan. 6, 1929 at Barton County the son of Fred William and Grace Aletha (DeVolld) Henning.
Bob married Merlyn Byers June 6, 1954 at Great Bend. He served during Korean War in the U.S. Army, earning the rank of Sergeant.
A lifetime Barton County resident, Bob co-owned and operated Brack and Henning Floor Covering, and attended Faith Community Church and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3111, both of Great Bend. He was active in the Assembly of God Church, serving as a bus driver for 13 years. Bob was as a man of few words, and enjoyed being active outdoors and indoors, always having a project.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Merlyn Henning, of the home; one son, Terry Henning of Great Bend; one daughter, Nancy Ritter and husband Bob of Great Bend; three grandchildren, Jessica Milsap, Great Bend, Shane Meeker, Tulsa, Okla., and Tonya Meeker, Great Bend; six great-grandchildren, Samantha Drake, Taylor Hommertzheim, Darius Meeker, Adalynn Meeker, Leighton Meeker, and Hadley Olsen; and one great-great-grandson, Braxton Drake.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William F. Henning, and a sister, Ruby Hart.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Faith Community Church in Great Bend with Pastor Sandy Kennedy and Pastor J.P. McCamey officiating. Internment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend, with Military Honors provided by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m., Monday at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m.
