Robert L. Siemsen 1938 - 2014

HOLYROOD — Robert L. Siemsen, 75, passed away May 20 in Lyons. He was born Nov. 14, 1938 in Ellsworth to Henry and Leora (Johansen) Siemsen.  A lifetime resident of Ellsworth County, he was raised on a farm in rural Holyrood.  Robert attended grade school and high school in Holyrood, graduating in 1956.  He was a farmer and stockman and a member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Holyrood.  He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy for three years aboard the USS Gunston Hall.  
On Oct. 21, 1956, he married Jo Ann Strube in Holyrood. They had four children. She passed away Feb. 17, 1971. He was also preceded in death by his parents. On Oct. 28, 1979, he married Judith Mehl in Holyrood. She survives. Other survivors include sons: Steve and wife Sherry of Holyrood and Roger and wife Jeni of Salina; daughters Deborah Volavka and husband Mike of Caldwell, Julie Nienke and husband Bob of Lorraine, Sheila Nather and husband Paul of Timken and Sheri Yager and husband Brian of Great Bend; 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; and brothers Bruce and wife Donna of Holyrood and Dale of Austin, Texas.
 Visitation will be 1-8 p.m., Wednesday with family receiving friends 6-8 p.m. at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth.  A funeral service will be held
2 p.m., Thursday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Holyrood, with burial following in the church cemetery.
