ALDEN — Ronald C. Langel, 71, died Oct. 15, 2011, at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. Born May 21, 1940, at Sterling, he was the son of Charles Yates and Carolyn Berblinger Langel. He was a 1958 graduate of Alden High School. On Aug. 4, 1961, he married Carol Harrison at Alden. A lifetime resident of Alden, he was a farmer and stockman.
Mr. Langel was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 82nd Airborne. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Alden, the Kansas Livestock Association and Ducks Unlimited.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Christine and husband Todd Oden of Sterling; stepmother, Goldie Harrison of Alden; three grandchildren, Guy, Jill and Brett Oden; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Scott Langel; a sister, Carol McCleskey; and stepfather, Norman Harrison.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the United Methodist Church in Alden with the Rev. Amy Slater officiating. Burial will be at the Alden Valley Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Birzer Funeral Home in Sterling. Memorials are suggested to the Alden United Methodist Church or Sterling High School Athletic Department, in care of the funeral home.
