LARNED — Ronald F. Scranton, 70, died June 15, 2016, at his home in Larned. Born Sept. 8, 1945, in the Hays Hospital, he was the son of Alvin E. and Ava June Worcester Scranton. In 1963, he graduated from Hill City High School and attended the University of Kansas and Kansas State University, earning BS and MS degrees in Horticulture and Business. On April 8, 1967, he married Martha Deason in Lawrence. She survives. He was the owner and operator of Larned Greenhouse, Flower Shop and Nursery from 1972 to 2010.
Mr. Scranton was a United States Army veteran, serving with the Combat Engineers in Vietnam.
Other survivors include, his mother, Ava June Scranton of Hill City; a sister, Sonja Steeples of Hays; a daughter, Kimberly and her husband Jay Holthaus of Leawood; and three granddaughters, Gretchen, Maureen and Alison, all of Leawood.
Funeral service swill be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned, with Officiant Rod Schmidt presiding. Burial and graveside will be at 3 p.m. on Monday in the Hill City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday with family present from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, at the funeral home.
