Ronald Guy “Ron” Salyer

HUTCHINSON — Ronald Guy “Ron” Salyer, 88, died Aug. 14, 2023, at his home. He was born Aug. 27, 1934, in Kansas City, Kan., to Dr. Guy and Vera (Hickman) Salyer.

Ron graduated from Menomonie High School, Menomonie, Wisc., and received his Bachelor of Political Science from the University of Kansas. On Oct. 9, 1959, he married Marilyn Peer, in San Diego, Calif.  

Ron retired after 20 years of service as an Intelligence Officer in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He then worked as an independent investment broker at Salyer Financial Services in Great Bend, Kan., where he proudly served on the city council. In 2006, Ron and his wife, Marilyn, moved to Hutchinson where he volunteered with the Reno County Sheriff Senior Patrol Program and the Kansas Cosmosphere.  In addition, he was a member of the Hutchinson Civitan Club, Trinity United Methodist Church, and the Doers Sunday School Class.  

Ron is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Marilyn; children, Matt Salyer (Teri) and Jennifer Showers (Mickey); grandchildren, Gage and Garrett Salyer, Serin Blowers (Aaron), Lauren Showers, and Madilyn Showers; brothers-in-law, Dr. Gary Peer (Beverly) and Carl Peer (Patricia); and sister-in-law, Karen Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Garth Kennedy.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Cremation has taken place.
