HOISINGTON — Roy Louis Nolte, 83, died Aug. 7, 2026, doing what he loved, being outdoors hiking the Kansas Prairies with his best four-legged friend Sadie. He was born Dec. 3, 1942, in Great Bend, Kan., the son of John L. and Elizabeth A. (Ukens) Nolte. In 1960 Roy graduated from Hudson High School. He spent a number of years serving in the Army Reserves.
On Nov. 21, 1965, he married Barbara Jean Deutsch in Hoisington. They were blessed with 54 years before her passing on Nov. 10, 2019.
A longtime Hoisington resident, Roy worked as the produce manager at Town and Country Supermarket for 46 years retiring in 2022. He was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church where he had served as an elder and a member of the American Legion Post #286. Always sociable, Roy genuinely enjoyed people and made friends wherever he went. His family admired his wide range of handyman abilities, and his lifelong learning approach of always researching and learning something new. He was devoted to his family, and he adored his grandchildren and supported them in all of their activities.
He is survived by his children, Christine Henry and husband Kris of Gardner; Cindy Wilborn and husband Brian of Hoisington, and Gary Nolte and wife Christina of Wamego; eight grandchildren, Hannah Lagerman and husband Colton, Madison Hanzlick and husband Hunter, Tyler Henry and wife Hattie, Marly Pahl and husband Caleb, Nolan Wilborn, Charlie Nolte, Isabelle Nolte, and Jack Nolte; and a great granddaughter Lydia Jean Hanzlick. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Imogene Christiansen; and brothers, John Gilbert Nolte and James Nolte.
A casual come and go visitation in order to honor Roy’s wishes for a simple celebration will be held at the Columbus Club, Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m. Friends may sign the book now until Saturday at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will take place at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
