Ruby L. North 1929 - 2011

ELLINWOOD/BALDWIN CITY — Ruby North, 82, died Oct. 30 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 30, 1929 at Cookeville, Tenn. the daughter of Marion Grider and Elizabeth Dunham Grider.

She was an Ellinwood resident for the past three years, formerly of Baldwin City. After high school, she trained to become a registered nurse in Nashville, Tenn. After moving to Baldwin City, she took the job of school nurse for the school district, where she served for nearly 25 years. She saw this as perhaps her most fulfilling job as she loved working with children and was always willing to help family and friends in the community. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both in Baldwin City. After a lengthy illness, Ruby’s faith in the Lord has led her to her heavenly home.

She was married to Lyle W. North on July 19, 1952 at Ottawa. He died Oct. 28, 2007.

She is survived by two children, son Eric and wife Pam North of Topeka, and daughter Sheila and Kurt Rugan of Ellinwood; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Ruth Flatt and Jean Nardini.

The prayer service will be today at 7 p.m. at Kimple Funeral Chapel in Ellinwood with the Rev. Jeff Frakes officiating. The funeral service will be from 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Baldwin City with the Rev. Richard Austin. The calling time will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Kimple’s in Ellinwood and from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lamb-Roberts in Baldwin City. Burial will be Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin City. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., Gideons International or the Ellinwood Hospital Auxiliary in care of the funeral home.
