Ruthetta R. Irvin, 91, La Crosse, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, La Crosse. Mrs. Irvin was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Otis, Kansas, the daughter of Benjamin and Susanna (Brack) Brack.
She was a lifelong resident of Rush County. A 1942 graduate of Alexander High School, Alexander, she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in administration from Fort Hays Kansas State College, Hays, She was a teacher and principal for over 50 years before her retirement.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Alexander and La Crosse, and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star Hays Chapter #228, Hays.
On July 24, 1946, she married Chester E. “Chet” Irvin at Alexander. He preceded her in death February 14, 2000.
Survivors include four sons, Dennis Irvin (Arlene), Manhattan; Galen Irvin (Jennis), Winfield; Don Irvin (Dena), La Crosse, and Kellye Irvin (Sandy), La Crosse; eight grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Donna Schadel, Great Bend and Alice Brozek, Great Bend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and four brothers, Vernon Brack, Bill Brack, Lloyd Brack, and Norman Brock.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Church visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 19, from 9 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, with Reverend Janice Farrell officiating. Interment will be in the McCracken City Cemetery, McCracken, Kansas.
