ST. JOHN — Sadie “Sid” Ruth Barber-Dale, 99, died on Dec. 8, 2016 in Aurora, Colo. Born March 28, 1917, in Stafford County, she was the daughter of Elmer and Ella Dale.
She graduated from Stafford High School. She was married to James Alanson Barber for over 60 years. Sid and Jim, both licensed funeral directors in Kansas, owned and operated the funeral home in St. John until 1959 and the Barber-Dunsford funeral home in Dodge City from 1959 until the mid 70’s. She was an active member in the Methodist Church in both communities.
Sid is survived by her sister Adabelle Koelling; her son James Barber and his wife Judy; her son John Barber and his wife Aagje; her grandson Bill Barber and his wife Tracy; her granddaughter Katy Ludwig and her husband B.J.; her granddaughter Megan Carmody and her husband Patrick; her grandson Ed Barber and his wife Marie; her granddaughter Tina Barber and her fiancée Matt Esser; and her grandson Jason Barber and his wife Megan; and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband James, her brothers Warren, Lewis, Murl and Dick, and her sisters Charlotte Heidi and Mary Glenn.
Visitation will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14 at Minnis Chapel in St. John. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 15 at Minnis Chapel with Tom Reazin and Jane Heidi officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.
