LARNED — Sammie Lea Perkins, 85, passed away Sept. 1, 2024 in Wichita.
She was born May 28, 1939 in Larned, the daughter of Samuel Lytle and Thelma Rose Caro Shepherd.
A lifetime area resident, she was a bakery supervisor in the production unit at Larned State Hospital. She was an active member of Escue Chapel CME Church, a member of Red Hat Society, and volunteered at the Food Pantry. She enjoyed cooking and baking for everybody and was well known for her cakes and desserts. She also enjoyed religious crossword puzzles, playing bingo, traveling, and shopping.
Survivors include three sons, James Lee Perkins, Larned, Jeffery Lane Patterson, Larned, Patrick Arthur Patterson, Auora, Colo.; two daughters, Jerry LaVern Perkins, Spring Hill, Fla., Connie L. Moose, Wichita; brother, Bruce Shepherd, Wichita; sister, Billie Broils, Larned; 17 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Bobbie Jean Love; two brothers, John Shepherd, Tommy Eugene Shepherd; three sisters, Betty Stubblefield, Elizabeth Moore, and Kitty Clark.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Reverend Anthony Hill and Pastor Damon Bradley presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery.
